Upcoming drama “A Virtuous Business” has shared its main poster!
A remake of the British television series “Brief Encounters,” “A Virtuous Business” will tell the story of the independence, growth, and friendship of four women who delve into door-to-door sales of adult products in a rural village back in 1992, when it was still taboo to talk about sex. Kim So Yeon will transform into the virtuous housewife Han Jung Sook, who won a local beauty pageant with her beautiful appearance.
The cast features Han Jung Sook, the calm direct sales leader; the sophisticated strategist Oh Geum Hee (Kim Sung Ryung); the energetic Seo Young Bok (Kim Sun Young); and the bold fact-checker Lee Joo Ri (Lee Se Hee). The main poster highlights their stylish outing as they begin selling adult products, aiming to uncover the hidden desires of their conservative village.
In 1992, the conservative villagers of Geumje struggled with hidden desires. They thought the only way to address sagging was through “Wangbangul” shapewear. Information on sexual activity, such as “how to have a hot night with your husband,” was secretly read while pretending to browse recipes in women’s magazines at hair salons.
The four women face similar struggles. Jung Sook, with her unreliable and financially troubled husband Kwon Seong Su (Choi Jae Rim), believed it was normal for him to want a modest wife. Geum Hee, raised as a proper lady and married to Choi Won Bong (Kim Won Hae) through a matchmaker, leads a dull life due to her husband’s old-fashioned views. Young Bok, married to the overly affectionate Park Jong Seon (Im Chul Soo), lives in poverty with four children in a one-room apartment. Joo Ri, a single mother raising her son alone, endures constant judgment about her appearance as a mother without a husband.
The women embrace the motto, “We women also have a right to passionate sex lives and to enjoy it,” as they sell products from the “Fantasy Lingerie” line. Their efforts introduce the conservative villagers to a more open world, transforming their view of candid discussions about sex and unusual products. The main poster features the women in bold, extravagant styles with the powerful message: “My dear, pursue your desires!”
The production team said, “The four women didn’t realize they were breaking new ground, but they challenge taboos and reveal Geumje’s hidden desires through their sales work. Their journey also helps them uncover and pursue their own dreams, creating an inspiring story. Kim So Yeon, Kim Sung Ryung, Kim Sun Young, and Lee Se Hee give exceptional performances that vividly recreate that era for today’s viewers. We hope everyone enjoys the show.”
