Amazon Prime Video’s Butterfly, a new character-driven spy thriller series adapted from the graphic novel by Arash Amel and Marguerite Bennett, has added significant Korean talent to its cast. Starring Daniel Dae Kim as David Jung, a former US intelligence operative in South Korea, the series delves into the high stakes of espionage where past decisions trigger perilous consequences.

Kim Ji Hoon is set to portray Gun, a brutally effective hitman relishing the challenge of hunting down a formidable opponent like David Jung. Kim, celebrated for his roles in Ballerina and Money Heist Korea, recently received the Best Artist Award at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards.

Veteran actors Sung Dong Il and Lee Il Hwa are also joining the cast in pivotal guest roles. Sung will play Dootae Kim, David Jung’s father-in-law and a powerful patriarch with extensive connections in both noble and notorious circles due to his thriving shipping business. Lee will appear as Jung’s mother-in-law, adding familial complexity to the narrative.

These three seasoned Korean actors further enhance a cast that already includes luminaries such as Park Hae Soo and Kim Tae Hee.

With the series co-created by Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist) and novelist Steph Cha, Butterfly promises a tapestry of intrigue and action. Daniel Dae Kim not only leads the ensemble but also serves as an executive producer under his 3AD banner, alongside other notable producers including Amel and representatives from BOOM! Studios.
