Kim Hee Seon revealed her surprising friendship with G-Dragon during a recent episode of tvN’s Whatcha Up To (literal translation). On the July 11th broadcast, the show featured the four MCs – Kim Hee Seon, Lee Soo Geun, Lee Eun Ji, and Younghoon from The Boyz – making calls to their close friends.
The producers teased, “There’s someone we really wanted on the show, but their schedule is crazy. Luckily, Kim Hee Seon knows them, so we set up a surprise phone call.”
The recipient picked up, “Hey!” Kim Hee Seon responded, “Just waking up? You sound like a voice actor.”
Lee Soo Geun guessed, “G-Dragon?” and Kim Hee Seon confirmed with a warm greeting, “Ji Yong? Did you just wake up?”
G-Dragon greeted Kim Hee Seon by saying, “Grandma! Hey there.” Kim Hee Seon chuckled and playfully answered, “That’s my grandson right there!”
G-Dragon then dished on their long-standing friendship. “We go way back, even before I debuted. She’s always been so kind, even treating me to meals.”
Kim Hee Seon then asked him about his plans to return to the music scene, saying, “Heard some things about you being busy. Anything new?” G-Dragon replied, “Maybe it’s time to focus on what I do best again.”

Younghoon, starstruck, fanboyed, “I can’t believe I’m talking to G-Dragon.” They exchanged greetings, with G-Dragon being the respectful senior.
Lee Soo Geun acknowledged the short notice and said, “It seems too sudden to ask you to come out today,” while Kim Hee Seon extended an invitation, “If we have another season, you gotta come on the show!”
To this, G-Dragon simply replied, “I might just have to guest on a Whatcha Up To episode then,” which made Kim Hee Seon overjoyed.
