Kim Go Eun gave fans a glimpse into her personal take on love, sharing her thoughts during an interview ahead of the release of her new film, Love in the Big City (directed by Lee Eon Hee), which hits theaters on November 1st.
On September 30th, Kim Go Eun sat down for an interview. When the interviewer commented, “The film showcases not only Heung Soo’s way of loving but also Jae Hee’s. In the film, Jae Hee is the type to dive right in when she’s into someone,” Kim responded with a laugh, “That’s our Jae Hee, and I wish she didn’t. Being in her 20s can’t be her excuse,” adding, “I’m glad it turned out for the best in the end, but she seriously needs to level up her taste in guys.”
Reflecting on her character, the actress added, “Jae Hee is the type who, once she’s into something, she just goes for it. Deep down, she’s got really low self-esteem. To cover it up, she goes extra on her looks, always trying to glow up even harder. Her biggest void is not feeling loved, so she fills that gap with relationships.”
“For Jae Hee, what matters most isn’t what kind of person the man is but how much he loves her,” she continued. “She doesn’t care about his personality, appearance, or character. All she asks is, ‘Am I your number one priority?’ You can see it in how her boyfriends are all so different.” Kim described this as Jae Hee’s biggest growing pain. “Even Heung Soo points it out, saying, ‘You’re disappearing because you’re always trying to please him. You’re not really in love with him.’ She has a big fight with him after hearing that, but slowly, she comes to realize it.”
Kim Go Eun laughed when talking about her own approach to love, saying, “I’m different. I need to take time to get to know someone. I wasn’t like Jae Hee, even in my 20s.” She added, “I need to be myself for a relationship to grow. I have to be able to joke around and show my true self.” When asked whether she prefers “meeting someone naturally” over being set up, Kim confessed, “Sadly, I’ve never been on a blind date or a group date. I guess it’s too late for that now?” she joked, keeping the interview lighthearted.
Love in the Big City follows the love lives of free-spirited Jae Hee (Kim Go Eun) and Heung Soo (Noh Sang Hyun), who learn to navigate relationships while living together.
