The highly-anticipated Netflix film “Uprising” has released new stills and posters featuring the cast!
Set during the Japanese invasion of Korea, “Uprising” follows the story of two childhood friends—Jong Ryeo (Park Jung Min), the son of Joseon’s most prominent military family, and his servant Cheon Young (Kang Dong Won). As adults, they find themselves on opposing sides, with Jong Ryeo serving as the closest military officer to the self-serving King Seonjo (Cha Seung Won), while Cheon Young becomes a soldier in the righteous army.
The recently released character posters and stills featuring six actors highlight their impressive charisma. Each character—noble, commoner, ruler, warrior, and enemy soldier—gazes confidently forward, showcasing a dramatic visual transformation that grabs the audience’s attention. This new preview builds excitement for what these actors will present in “Uprising.” The accompanying character stills also vividly portray the chaos following the war’s outbreak, showing how each person faces their unique challenges, which raises curiosity about the unfolding story.
Kang Dong Won plays Cheon Young, a servant known for his exceptional swordsmanship. Cheon Young is a determined character who seeks to break free from the unfair label of a servant and regain his noble status. Kang Dong Won not only showcases impressive sword-fighting skills but also skillfully conveys Cheon Young’s complex inner struggles.
Park Jung Min stars as Jong Ryeo, the only son of a renowned military family in Joseon. He forms a close friendship with Cheon Young, a servant who trains with him from childhood. However, when Jong Ryeo discovers that Cheon Young has killed his entire family, he is overwhelmed by betrayal and vows to take revenge. Park Jung Min delivers a strong performance, effectively portraying Jong Ryeo’s intense emotions. The story creates excitement for the inevitable clash between the two former friends, now turned adversaries—one as a military officer and the other as a voluntary soldier.
Cha Seung Won plays King Seonjo, a ruler who fled and abandoned his people during difficult times. Rather than addressing the concerns of the people after the war, this troubled king focuses on maintaining his authority and rebuilding Gyeongbokgung Palace. Cha Seung Won portrays King Seonjo with a sharp expression, stubborn demeanor, and wild gaze, delivering a unique interpretation of a character that has been depicted in various ways throughout history.
Kim Shin Rok plays Bum Dong, a commoner who rises to become a soldier. Bum Dong is a relentless character who charges ahead without looking back, driven by her focus on the target in front of her. Kim Shin Rok captures Bum Dong’s strong inner resolve, which remains unbroken by enemies or the class system, showcasing her diverse charm and personality.
Jin Sun Kyu portrays Kim Ja Ryeong, a righteous army commander who guides the people through chaos. As a scholar with firm belief in his values, he listens compassionately to the stories of weary fighters after long battles. Jin Sun Kyu’s steady and nuanced performance adds depth to this empathetic leader, making the character even more well-rounded.
Jung Sung Il portrays Kenshin, the commander of the Japanese forces invading Joseon. With a goblin mask, he prowls the battlefield like a hunting ground, instilling fear in the hearts of the Joseon people. His menacing gaze adds to the tension and excitement of the drama.
The strong personalities of these characters, brought to life by the talented cast, vividly tell the stories of those who fought against their destinies during a time of war and chaos, captivating audiences around the world.
“Uprising” will premiere on October 11.
