The highly anticipated historical K-drama “Jeong Nyeon”, starring Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun and Ra Mi Ran, will be broadcast for the first time in October but the poster recently unveiled on August 21 has already sparked fans’ excitement as it features an impressive cast of stars, including Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Eun Chae and Kim Yoon Hye, all set to immerse themselves in the world of acting and traditional music. Based on a popular webcomic and directed by Jung Ji In, this drama is set in the 1950s after the Korean War and depicts Jeong Nyeong’s quest to become an actress.
On the poster, we can read the powerful caption which reads: “ Musicians are here to comfort the world in difficult times », which announces a drama that will explore the richness and dynamism of the world of traditional Korean theater. Indeed, “Jeong Nyeon” transports viewers to the 1950s, after the Korean War, focusing on the struggles and aspirations of its protagonist, Jeong Nyeong, played by Kim Tae Ri.
We will discover the difficulties of the daily life of Jeong Nyeong and his mother, played by Moon So Ri. Their struggles, however, do not prevent Jeong Nyeong from dreaming of becoming an actress in Seoul, a city that seems a thousand miles from her current reality and it is by attending a convincing performance by a theater troupe led by the director Kang So Bok, played by Ra Mi Ran, as his aspirations take a new turn.
Inspired by the performance, Jeong Nyeong secretly joins the theater troupe and travels to Seoul, where she begins her journey as a trainee in the competitive world of traditional theater. It is along the way that she meets Heo Young Seo, played by Shin Ye Eun, who will trigger a rivalry which will add tension to her story.
Adapted from a popular webcomic by Seo Ye Ri and Na Mon, “Jeong Nyeon” is directed by Jung Ji In, known for his work on the hit series “The Red Sleeves”, while the screenplay is written by Cho Hyo Bi , to whom we also owe “A Time Called You”. Scheduled to premiere on October 12, with new episodes every Saturday and Sunday throughout the series’ 16-episode run, “Jeong Nyeon” promises an original storyline with talented actors.
The series can therefore be expected to offer an emotional and captivating exploration of dreams and determination, set against the backdrop of a transformative era in Korean history.
First official posters of Jung Nyeon with Kim Tae Ri receive mixed reception from viewers
The release of the first official posters for tvn’s Jung Nyeon drama, adapted from the same webtoon, has sparked a lot of online discussion among netizens. Indeed, this drama is scheduled for release in October, which means that in two months, it has been a highly publicized project thanks to its prestigious roots, whose leading female role is played by the winner Kim Tae Ri surrounded by Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran and Jung Eun Chae, not to mention the fact that the story is adapted from a webtoon about women’s empowerment.
However, as soon as it was announced that the drama was eliminating a female character with a lesbian romance with the main character as well as her own story of overcoming male bullying in the workplace, fans were left with the impression that two important storylines had been removed. Furthermore, the publication of the poster has reignited the debate and criticism on the poor aesthetics on the one hand, but on the other hand, it is felt that it is too early to pass judgment.
