Jung Hae In attended the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his film I, The Executioner, sharing his reflections and emotional moments.
On May 21st, local time, Jung Hae In spoke with News1 at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in the south of France. “It didn’t feel real,” he admitted. “I was very nervous, but I tried my best to appear calm.” When asked if he received any advice from director Ryoo Seung Wan or co-star Hwang Jung Min, Jung Hae In shared, “Hwang Jung Min told me, ‘I get nervous too, so don’t feel too burdened by it.’”
Reflecting on his unexpected journey to Cannes, Jung Hae In said, “I never imagined coming here while we were filming. I found out about Cannes during another drama shoot, and my drama team genuinely congratulated me and happily let me go, for which I’m grateful.”
Jung Hae In attended the festival with his mother, who was moved to tears. “When we got back to our room, I asked her why she cried,” he shared. “She said, ‘It feels like the puzzle pieces have come together.’ During filming, I’d come home exhausted, and she’d ask what I did that day. I’d tell her I was filming in Namsan or that I got soaked in the rain. Watching the movie, she connected all those moments.”
He added, “My mom gets very immersed. Instead of just watching the movie, she kept saying, ‘My son, my son.’ She thought, ‘Is my son going to die?’ during certain scenes,” he recalled with a laugh.
Despite attending Cannes earlier than he expected, Jung Hae In remains positive. “I have no concerns about any negative impact. Productions of dramas and films have significantly decreased,” he noted. “Hwang Jung Min always says, ‘Never forget to be grateful that we are working on a project,’ which he reiterated yesterday.”
I, The Executioner follows veteran detective Seo Do Cheol (Hwang Jung Min) and detective Park Sun Woo (Jung Hae In), the youngest of the team, as they hunt down a notorious serial killer. The sequel to the 2015 hit Veteran, which attracted over 13.4 million viewers, I, The Executioner is the only Korean film invited to this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
