Alien Company, Jun Hyoseong’s agency, confirmed today that the actress has received a casting offer and is actively considering the project. If accepted, she will portray the victim of the brutal attack that sparked national outrage.

The upcoming movie will be helmed by director Kim Yong Jae, known for films such as Viva! Love and Lifting King Kong.

The “Busan roundhouse kick” occurred in May 2022 when a 30-year-old man brutally assaulted a 20-year-old woman at the entrance of a residence building in Busan’s Seomyeon district. CCTV footage captured the man chasing the victim from the street and viciously attacking her in the building’s hallway.

The perpetrator was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison in the first trial. However, the sentence was increased to 20 years in the final appeal after the charge was changed to attempted rape and murder. The perpetrator denied the crime in court and continued to threaten the victim while in jail, which resulted in his confinement in a solitary cell.

While No Choice But to Become a Devil is based on the Busan incident, it aims to address broader social issues such as random violence and retaliatory crimes in Korea. Notably, the actual victim of the incident is reportedly involved as a script consultant. She debuted as an author with a book detailing the difficulties faced by crime victims earlier this year. She will assist the director and production team in this film.

Production for No Choice But to Become a Devil is set to begin in mid-August, with a target release date for next year.
