JTBC has issued a public apology after mistakenly airing CCTV footage of another person, claiming it was BTS member Suga involved in a DUI incident. The news channel clarified the mistake during its main news program, Newsroom, on the 16th.

Anchor Choi Jae Won explained, “On August 7th, we reported on BTS member Suga’s DUI incident and aired CCTV footage of a man riding an electric scooter on a main road.” He continued, “However, after police investigation, it was confirmed that the man in the video was not Suga. We apologize for the confusion this caused.”

The original Newsroom broadcast on the 7th featured a video titled “Exclusive: Suga DUI CCTV Footage Released,” showing a man on an electric scooter who crashes after hitting a curb. JTBC reported this individual as Suga, which led to speculation that the BTS member had lied about the details of his incident, as he had initially stated that he fell near his apartment’s front gate.

However, discrepancies in the location and scooter model eventually led to questions about the accuracy of the footage. It was later confirmed that the man in the video was not Suga, prompting JTBC to remove the video from its official channels, including YouTube.

The incident in question occurred on the night of August 6th, when Suga was found by police near his home in Hannam-dong, Seoul, after falling off an electric scooter while intoxicated. His blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.227%, well above the legal limit. Suga is currently under investigation for violating the Road Traffic Act, and police are expected to summon him for further questioning soon.
