Upcoming film “The Land of Happiness” has shared new stills featuring Jo Jung Suk, Lee Sun Gyun, and Yoo Jae Myung!

“The Land of Happiness” tells the story of lawyer Jung In Hoo (Jo Jung Suk), who struggles to save Park Tae Joo (Lee Sun Gyun) from a life-or-death situation in the trial of the 1979 presidential assassination case. The movie is based on the real-life incident in which former President Park Chung Hee was assassinated on October 26, 1979.

The newly released stills capture three main characters: lawyer Jung In Hoo, Park Tae Joo, the chief secretary to the head of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, and Jeon Sang Doo (Yoo Jae Myung), the head of the Joint Investigation Department.

The first still captures Jung In Hoo, a lawyer who takes on the defense of Park Tae Joo, who is involved in the assassination case. Jung In Hoo, who used to believe that there is only victory or defeat, not justice, in the courtroom, begins to change over the course of the trial. As Jung In Hoo struggles to ensure that Park Tae Joo receives a fair trial, he eventually realizes that the outcome of the trial is being manipulated and explodes with anger.

Talking about how he prepared for his character, actor Jo Jung Suk expressed, “I approached the character thinking about how many people might view the film through Jung In Hoo’s eyes and perspective.”

The next photo captures Military Officer Park Tae Joo (Lee Sun Gyun), chief secretary to the head of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, who gets involved in the assassination of the president under the orders of his superiors. Because Park Tae Joo is a military officer, he is subjected to a single trial where the verdict is final without room for an appeal. Despite being in a situation where he cannot appeal the verdict, Park Tae Joo maintains his integrity and steadfastly upholds his beliefs until the end.

Director Choo Chang Min praised Lee Sun Gyun for his perfect portrayal of Park Tae Joo. He stated, “I asked actor Lee Sun Gyun to delve deep into the character of Park Tae Joo, and as a result, he delivered a performance that was beyond expectations.”

The last image depicts Jeon Sang Doo, the head of the Joint Investigation Department and the mastermind behind the worst political trial in the history of Korea. He is captured eavesdropping on the trial from a secret chamber and manipulating the outcome. In order to ensure a smooth trial, he insists on a closed-door session and orchestrates a corrupt trial by intimidating the defense team.

Yoo Jae Myung, who has made a strong impression in each of his films, went through great lengths to perfectly embody the character of Jeon Sang Doo, even altering his appearance by shaving his head.

On how he prepared for the character of Jeon Sang Doo, who is based on a real individual, Yoo Jae Myung explained, “I dedicated considerable effort to capturing the balance between the real person and the fictional character.”

“The Land of Happiness” will hit theaters on August 14.
