Korean multihyphenate Jang Na Ra claimed the coveted Grand Prize (Daesang) at the 2024 SBS Drama Awards, marking her first top acting honor in a remarkable 23-year career.
The star-studded ceremony, held at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Seoul, on December 21st, saw Jang take home the night’s highest honor for her compelling portrayal of divorce attorney Cha Eun Kyung in the hit series Good Partner.
Fighting back tears during her acceptance speech, Jang shared, “It seems like all the amazing moments in my life happen at SBS. True to the drama’s title, I was able to hold this Grand Prize trophy because I met such good partners.” The emotional actress gave special recognition to her co-star Nam Ji Hyun, stating, “Nam Ji Hyun made so many things possible. She was a blessing to both the drama and me.”
In a moment of candid reflection, she continued, “Actually, I realized this quite late in my career—I wish I had known earlier—but it’s such a miracle that people I’ve never met face-to-face show their love for me and watch our drama. As I get older, I’ve come to understand this, and I feel both grateful and sorry.” She concluded with a heartfelt promise: “I want to remain an actor that people are curious about. I will truly work hard, very hard.”
This victory cements Jang’s position in Korean entertainment history as the first star to achieve grand prizes in both year-end drama and music awards. She previously won the Grand Prize at the 2002 MBC Music Festival and KBS Music Awards.
