On June 13th, Jang Ki Yong sat down for an interview at a café in Hapjeong-dong, Seoul, to discuss the conclusion of the JTBC drama The Atypical Family. The actor opened up about his experiences on set and his interactions with his co-stars.

Jang Ki Yong expressed his thoughts on working with Park So Yi, who played his daughter Bok Yi Na. “There were many scenes where Yi Na and Gwi Ju were distant from each other. As her father, I wished we could have filmed more happy scenes together, where I could hug her and hold her hand,” he shared.

He fondly recalled a particular scene, saying, “The most enjoyable scene with So Yi was in episode 11 at the amusement park. We ran around laughing and eating cotton candy. It was a wonderful experience and we had great chemistry.” He went on, “That amusement park scene was our last shoot, and it was three days before So Yi’s birthday. After we finished filming, I gave her a pair of shoes and a short letter. I didn’t want to give her the present on the day of her birthday. (laughs) Like Gwi Ju, I bought the presents early and then gave them to her with a thank you.”

Jang Ki Yong also spoke about his collaboration with actress Chun Woo Hee. “I’ve always wanted to work with her. I was excited. And I wanted to do this well, especially since this was my first project after being discharged from the military. I think that energy translated well to Woo Hee. Even though some scenes were challenging, our synergy kept building, and we relied on each other a lot. The atmosphere on set was just fantastic,” he said.

He further praised Chun Woo Hee, noting, “There’s a unique quality to her, isn’t there? She’s an incredible actress. I’ve always had a desire to work with her, and I’m glad we finally got the chance.”
