Jang Dong Gun is returning to the big screen after six years with A Normal Family. Ahead of the film’s release, he opened up about his thoughts on past scandal.
In an interview with reporters on September 26th, Jang said, “I’m really nervous and excited since it’s been such a long time.” He added, “I know people are curious about my personal life, but I’m cautious because this isn’t just my movie, and I don’t want to bring any negativeness into this.” He also asked, “Please judge the film on its own merits.”
Jang was previously caught up in a scandal in 2020 when private messages between him and fellow actor Ju Jin Mo were leaked. Hackers who targeted the phones of eight celebrities, including Joo, were arrested in April that year after extorting a total of 610 million won ($462,743). Following the incident, Jang took a break from the spotlight. Although he made a return to acting in last year’s drama Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun, he avoided public appearances and remained silent about the scandal.
Reflecting on the experience, Jang said, “It made me realize how precious every moment on set is. It reminded me that nothing in life should be taken for granted. I’m looking forward to pushing myself with new projects.”
A Normal Family is set to premiere on October 16th. It is a suspense film that follows four people whose lives start to unravel after they witness a crime involving children through CCTV footage. The film is directed by Hur Jin Ho, known for Christmas in August, One Fine Spring Day and The Last Princess. Jang Dong Gun plays Jae Gyu, a morally upright pediatrician.
