Actress Hwang Jung Eum has paid tribute to the late Kim Soo Mi.
Hwang Jung Eum shared a heartfelt message on Monday, mourning Kim Soo Mi’s passing. She wrote, “Beloved Teacher Soo Mi… I couldn’t say goodbye on your final journey as I’m far away with my son.” Hwang recently embarked on an overseas trip with her son.
Hwang continued, “I will cherish the warm memories of you treating us kindly on set and bringing delicious food for everyone to share with the director and staff. I will strive to be a warm and caring actor for juniors like you. I love and respect you. Rest in peace.”
Hwang Jung Eum and Kim Soo Mi showcased their comedic chemistry as mother and daughter in the 2013 SBS drama Incarnation of Money.
Kim Soo Mi experienced cardiac arrest around 8 AM on October 25 and was transported to Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in Seocho-gu, where she was ultimately pronounced dead. Her funeral was held at 11 AM on the 27th at the Hanyang University Hospital funeral hall in Seongdong-gu. She is buried at Yongin Honors Stone. She is survived by her husband, Jung Chang Kyu; her daughter, Jung Joo Ri; her son, Jung Myung Ho; and her daughter-in-law, Seo Hyo Rim.
Born in 1949, Kim Soo Mi debuted as an actress in 1970 as part of MBC’s third talent recruitment. She gained widespread affection for her role as Il Yong Eomni in the MBC drama Country Diaries. In her later years, she actively participated in various shows such as TVN STORY’s The President’s People and KBS 2TV’s Boss In The Mirror.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung Eum married Lee Young Don in 2016 and had two sons, but their marriage ended in divorce. They reconciled in 2020 but announced their second divorce this year. Hwang is set to host the new variety show I Like Solo, which premieres on Tuesday.
