Hwang In Youp recently opened up about the dating rumors surrounding him and his Family by Choice co-star Jung Chae Yeon, sparked by their strong on-screen chemistry. While denying the rumors, he expressed gratitude for the attention, calling it a testament to their convincing performances.
During an interview on November 29th, Hwang In Youp reflected on his experience filming JTBC’s Family by Choice, which aired its finale on November 27th with a viewership rating of 3.7%. From the project’s early preparation in 2022 to its conclusion two years later, the role of Kim San Ha left a lasting impact on the actor.
“It was a project I poured my heart into,” Hwang said. “I was already sad when filming ended, but now that the series is over too, I couldn’t help but cry during the wrap-up.”
The camaraderie among the cast and crew also made the experience unforgettable. “Everyone on set was so kind, and we all got along really well. Since the story centers around family and love, we felt a responsibility to capture that essence. Over time, our bonds grew stronger,” he shared.
The love story between Kim San Ha (Hwang In Youp) and Yoon Ju Won (Jung Chae Yeon) resonated deeply with fans, sparking speculation about a real-life romance between the two actors. Addressing the rumors, Hwang laughed, saying, “If people saw it that way, I almost feel bad for disappointing them.” He added, “I’m incredibly thankful for getting over-immersed in the story—it feels like a compliment. Chae Yeon mentioned she found the kiss scene heart-fluttering, which might have fueled the rumors further, but the director created such a romantic ambience that it was hard not to feel swept up.”
Hwang In Youp is already gearing up for his next project, Dear X, directed by Lee Eung Bok. “This time, I’ll be playing a character that’s completely different from what I’ve done before—cold, wounded, and seemingly hollow. It’s an honor to work with Director Lee,” he said, expressing his excitement.
As for his aspirations, Hwang shared, “’Family by Choice’ was deeply focused on themes of family, so there wasn’t much emphasis on romance. Next, I’d like to try something bright and lively, like a romantic comedy. A melodrama could also be a great challenge.”
