“Family by Choice” is a JTBC romance drama about three people who reconnect after spending 10 years living together as a family and another 10 years living apart as strangers.

During their adolescence, Kim San Ha (Hwang In Youp), Yoon Ju Won (Jung Chaeyeon), and Kang Hae Jun (Bae Hyeon Seong) are raised together by Kim San Ha’s father Kim Dae Uk (Choi Moo Sung) and Yoon Ju Won’s father Yoon Jeong Jae (Choi Won Young).

According to the production team, the three, who shared both joyful and sorrowful moments together as a family in their childhood, face a sudden and shocking separation crisis just as the two older brothers approach their 20s. Kim San Ha decides to move to Seoul to care for his mother, who has become paralyzed from the waist down. Meanwhile, Kang Hae Jun, feeling guilty about burdening Yoon Jeong Jae, chooses to leave for America with his biological father, leaving Yoon Ju Won alone in Haedong, where they all grew up.

Having shared similar pains, they have supported and comforted each other, living happily despite the world’s harsh judgments. However, the forced separation due to family obligations was especially painful. Yoon Ju Won’s tearful question, “Are both of you really going to find your true families?” reflects just how significant they were to one another.

In the upcoming episodes 9 and 10, the story jumps forward 10 years, when the three reunite as adults. The newly released stills offer a glimpse of the grown-up Kim San Ha, Yoon Ju Won, and Kang Hae Jun.

In the stills, Kim San Ha is seen in a doctor’s coat, speaking with a patient, while Yoon Ju Won, now an accomplished pastry chef, is seen personally sourcing her own ingredients. Meanwhile, Kang Hae Jun’s current life is shrouded in mystery. Although he appears more mature than in his younger days, he still seems to be unemployed. With 10 years having passed since their unexpected separation, it remains uncertain whether these reunions will revive the deep bond they once shared.

The next episode of “Family by Choice” airs on November 6 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
