After Hani announced her upcoming nuptial to broadcaster and psychiatrist Yang Jae Woong, the couple has been met with a flood of negative comments online.
On the 29th, Hani’s recent Instagram post received comments such as, “Make sure you think carefully before deciding to marry,” and “It’s your life, so it’s your choice, but think it through.” Others criticized the timing of their announcement, with remarks like, “Someone died, and four days later, you’re announcing your marriage.”
Yang Jae Woong’s Instagram was also hit with negative comments, including “I saw the news” and “Unbelievable.” The backlash seems to stem from a recent SBS News detailing the death of a 33-year-old woman, referred to as A, at a psychiatric clinic in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, where she was undergoing treatment for addiction to diet pills containing narcotics.
Security camera footage showed A clutching her stomach in pain. Despite her evident distress, she was only given medication and then restrained to the bed by a nurse and a caregiver. About an hour later, as her symptoms worsened—nose bleeding and heavy breathing—they released her restraints and administered emergency treatment. However, A eventually lost consciousness and tragically passed away, with the cause suspected to be a pseudo-obstruction.
The deceased’s family claimed, “He’s a famous psychiatrist, and he talked about his addiction programs on TV; that’s why we came to his clinic,” expressing their frustration at the clinic’s handling of the situation. They have since filed a criminal complaint against the medical staff for gross negligence resulting in death and lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.
Regarding the incident, the clinic stated, “On the day of the accident, the on-duty doctor was on call, and we have regularly conducted training for emergency response, including CPR. We plan to fully cooperate with the investigation.”
The report speculated that the clinic involved might be run by the “two brothers” known for their TV appearances, leading to assumptions about Yang Jae Woong and Yang Jae Jin. Yang Jae Woong’s entertainment agency stated, “We handle only his broadcasting activities, so we cannot confirm matters related to his private practice.”
Meanwhile, Hani and Yang Jae Woong announced their plans to marry in September, after four years of dating. Yang Jae Woong recently revealed on a TV show that Hani was the one who proposed, garnering public attention.
