Gong Yoo, 45, has revealed his deep attachment to his first-ever antagonist role as the mysterious “Ddakji Man” in the global phenomenon Squid Game 2. In a recent interview with Netflix Korea, the veteran actor opened up about his approach to the sinister character.

“The character was shrouded in mystery, and both the director and I felt that revealing too much would compromise Ddakji Man’s essence,” Gong shared. He elaborated on his interpretation of the role, saying, “Simply put, he’s close to being a psychopath. It made me wonder what kind of life someone must have lived to possess such a gaze and demeanor.”

Lee Jung Jae, who created memorable scenes alongside Gong, praised his co-star’s performance: “Gong delivered an extraordinarily eccentric character. He managed to blend eeriness with fear, while also incorporating humorous beats. Every scene featuring Gong was completely dominated by his energy.”

The Train to Busan star candidly shared, “I’ve actually wanted to play a villain for a long time, but I’ve been holding back. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk showed up just in time, like he knew. Being my first antagonist role, I’ve developed a stronger attachment to Ddakji Man than any other character I’ve played.”

Squid Game 2, which premiered on December 26th, follows the story of Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) as he returns to the game seeking revenge, facing off against the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung Hun).
