The upcoming movie “Because I Hate Korea” has unveiled a glimpse of Go Ah Sung’s character!
Based on a bestselling novel, “Because I Hate Korea” follows Gye Na (Go Ah Sung), a woman in her late twenties who, in search of her own happiness, leaves behind her job, family, and boyfriend to embark on a solo journey to New Zealand.
The newly released stills boost excitement for the film by highlighting Gye Na’s journey. The images show a tired Gye Na in a heavy coat during her long daily commute, contrasting with her cheerful demeanor and social interactions in New Zealand. These visuals emphasize her transformation and spark curiosity about the challenges she will encounter in her search for happiness.
In the film, Gye Na and other characters including her boyfriend Ji Myeong (Kim Woo Kyum), whom she has been dating for seven years, and Jae In (Joo Jong Hyuk), whom she meets in New Zealand, each embark on their own quests for happiness.
In Korea, Gye Na faces a tough job market and endures a two-hour daily commute. She decides to leave Korea after her long-term boyfriend wants to get married without preparation and her parents suggest using their savings to move into an apartment. Gye Na believes that even small comforts, such as not being hungry or cold, are important for happiness. She decides to leave her difficult life in Korea, where she struggled to experience these small joys, and starts looking for a new sense of happiness in New Zealand.
During filming, Go Ah Sung, whose age is close to that of her character, deeply connected with the character’s feelings and struggles, adding a layer of realism to the film. Along with her co-stars Joo Jong Hyuk and Kim Woo Kyum, Go Ah Sung fully inhabited her role, encouraging audiences to consider questions such as, “What is happiness?” and, “What kind of life do I want?”
“Because I Hate Korea” is set to hit theaters on August 28.
