The buzz about celebrity family businesses continues to grow. While some argue that using a star’s fame for profit is unfair, others believe there should be no restrictions on how celebrities’ families choose to earn a living.

On July 4th, it was revealed that BTS’s RM’s younger sister opened a café on the 1st of this month. This news spread as fans shared photos online, showing RM’s congratulatory flower wreath with the message, “I support your new beginning! Kim Nam Joon.” The café, located in the trendy Seongsu-dong area of Seoul, is surrounded by popular cosmetic brands and restaurants, making it a hotspot for the younger generation.

EXO’s Kai’s sister also runs a café, which has been in business for over a decade since its opening in 2014. Despite initial price controversy, the café’s pricing was comparable to other nearby cafes in the Seocho Station area. While some critics initially suggested that Kai’s fame might have influenced the café’s success, it has now established itself as a well-known local spot rather than just “Kai’s café.”

Other celebrities’ families have also ventured into business. G-Dragon’s sister is a successful fashion designer and entrepreneur, with her brand making its mark in places like the Shanghai mall. GOT7’s Jinyoung’s sister has been operating a café in Jinhae, South Gyeongsang, since 2021.

The debate over whether celebrity families should leverage their famous relatives’ names will likely continue. However, as these businesses thrive, it’s clear that many fans and customers appreciate the hard work and dedication that go into them.
