The creators of “Dreaming of Cinde Fxxxing Rella” have shared some insigts into the upcoming drama!
“Dreaming of Cinde Fxxxing Rella” is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Shin Jae Rim (Pyo Ye Jin), who, in the face of harsh reality, decides to pursue her dream of becoming a Cinderella, and Moon Cha Min (Lee Jun Young), a chaebol heir who doesn’t believe in love. The drama is a collaboration between director Kim Min Kyung of “SNL Korea Season 9” and screenwriter Baek Mi Kyung of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” who joined the production as a creator.
In a recent interview, creator Baek Mi Kyung and newcomer scriptwriter Yuja delved into their creative process for the series. Yuja expressed, “Even though it’s a rom-com, I wanted the narrative to be more about overcoming the Cinderella complex rather than being a simple Cinderella story.” Notably, she added, “I drew the final touch of inspiration from IU‘s song ‘My sea.’ I wanted to portray the process of someone loving even the parts of themselves that they dislike.”
Baek Mi Kyung shared, “I wanted to candidly depict the real-life concerns of young women.” She elaborated, “Although every woman dreams of a solid, proactive life, the reality is not always easy. I want to convey the message that as long as you love and take pride in yourself, you’ll eventually evolve.”
This perspective led Baek Mi Kyung to interpret the prince on a white horse not merely as a character or a romantic notion, but as “an opportunity to change life’s course.” She added, “While it’s a feel-good and enjoyable drama for everyone to watch, I strived to clearly convey the underlying themes.”
Yuja echoed this sentiment, stating, “In the journey of growth, it’s easy to feel helpless, experience setbacks, and endure wounds. However, all scars belong to the past. I wanted to write a comforting drama that tells people that they’ve grown wonderfully and lets those who cannot see the wings behind them know that they have wings.” She further shared that she incorporated the idea of someone trapped in a tower waiting for someone to save them, but ultimately discovering their own wings and getting out of the tower themselves.
When discussing the drama’s lead actors Pyo Ye Jin and Lee Jun Young, Yuja shared that she envisioned Pyo Ye Jin for the role even during the initial planning stages. She explained, “Since Jae Rim’s character thrives on challenges and brims with passion, I wanted an actress who exuded a lovely and kind vibe. Pyo Ye Jin’s ability to convey various emotions through her eyes allowed for a better portrayal of Shin Jae Rim’s emotions.”
As for Lee Jun Young, Yuja noted, “Lee Jun Young wonderfully delivered the lines I wrote. He excelled in comedic acting and he looked incredibly cool during action scenes, especially when donning a long coat. Please keep an eye out for the dynamic comic chemistry brewing between Pyo Ye Jin and Lee Jun Young.”
“Dreaming of Cinde Fxxxing Rella” is set to premiere on May 31 on TVING.
