MBC’s new K-drama “Bitter Sweet Hell” (also known as “Our House”), directed by Lee Dong Hyun and starring Kim Hee Sun, Lee Hye Young, Kim Nam Hee and Yeonwoo, has was first broadcast on May 24, 2024.
Synopsis: No Yeong-Won (Kim Hee-Seon) is a psychology consultant and celebrity. His personal life is just as impressive as his professional career. She is married to Jae-Jin (Kim Nam-Hee), who is a successful doctor. He is caring and compassionate as a husband and parent. Although No Yeong-Won is envied by others, she often has conflicts with her mother-in-law Hong Sa-Gang (Lee Hye-Young). Her mother-in-law is a writer of detective novels. She is charismatic and sensitive. Meanwhile, No Yeong-Won finds himself involved in an unexpected affair. This puts No Yeong-Won and his family in danger. No Yeong-Won and her mother-in-law Hong Sa-Gang try to protect their family.
This dark comedy-drama also stars DKZ’s Jaechan as Choi Do Hyun, the son of Young Won (Kim Hee Seon) and Jae Jin (Kim Nam Hee). Jaechan is also currently appearing in “My Sweet Mobster” on JTBC. A recent plot twist regarding Jaechan’s character has rocked the internet. In “Bitter Sweet Hell”, Do Hyun appeared to have a relationship with So Yi (Han Sung Min), who was assumed to be his girlfriend. It was also suspected that he had gotten her pregnant.
However, in episode 9, Do Hyun confessed to his mother that he is not attracted to So Yi but to his friend, Jun Ho.
The clip quickly went viral, racking up over a million views on TikTok and hundreds of thousands of views on X. Viewers were excited to see that his character had come out as gay, especially during Pride Month. Many fans praised Jaechan’s acting in this emotional scene.
“Bitter Sweet Hell” viewers certainly weren’t expecting the plot twist, although Jaechan hinted that there would be one. Netizens say it rivals the famous MV “Please Don’t…” by K.Will.
This is the second time that Jaechan plays a character coming out as gay in a K-drama. Previously, he starred in his breakout role in the BL “Semantic Error”. Fans are impressed that he’s done it now in a mainstream drama series.
