Actor Choi Daniel recently addressed rumors involving Hwang Jung Eum during his appearance on Radio Star on the 19th.
Reflecting on the time when High Kick Through the Roof (2009-2010) took a week-long hiatus, Choi said, “Back then, any delay was seen as a sign of trouble. A rumor started that I had an affair with Hwang Jung Eum, and her then-boyfriend (SG Wannabe’s Kim Yong Joon) supposedly gave me a black eye that I couldn’t be on camera for a week.”
He clarified, “But the truth is, the H1N1 flu was spreading, and gatherings were discouraged. Hwang Jung Eum and Yoon Shi Yoon caught the flu, so we had to halt filming to prevent it from spreading.”
Choi Daniel also spoke fondly of the sitcom, saying, “It received so much love that even now, it has over 10 million views on YouTube. With sitcoms being rare these days, people are revisiting older shows. Even elementary students watch it now, and I get DMs saying, ‘Uncle, please marry me.’”
He also touched on the show’s controversial sad ending, where his character, Lee Ji Hoon, and Shin Se Kyung’s character seemingly die in a car accident. “Only Shin Se Kyung and I knew about the ending. The director called us separately and gave us the script. Shin Se Kyung and Seo Shin Ae were the protagonists, and the show focused on their journey to Seoul. And it ended with Se Kyung finally speaking her mind in the last scene, so it could seen as a happy ending for her,” Choi explained. “The ending had a certain artistic intention, but I was surprised it concluded in black and white without music. It must have been shocking for the viewers as well.”
