MBC’s upcoming drama “When the Phone Rings” has shared a new glimpse of Chae Soo Bin’s character!
Based on a popular web novel, “When the Phone Rings” tells the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple that married for convenience—and the the romance that blossoms between them after a threatening phone call.
Chae Soo Bin stars as Hong Hee Joo, a sign language interpreter dealing with mutism due to a childhood accident. Hong Hee Joo, who is in a marriage of convenience, experiences a horrifying event when she is kidnapped by a mysterious figure one day. Ironically, after this ordeal, she decides to change her stagnant life.
Chae Soo Bin expressed her deep affection for the character, saying, “I found it endearing how Hee Joo, who has lived a suppressed life, never lost her unique warmth and, for the first time, began to express her emotions and strive to improve her life.”
Regarding the aspect she focused on the most while acting, she shared, “As a sign language interpreter, I wanted to portray sign language naturally without it seeming awkward, so I practiced a lot.”
She added, “Although I know basic greetings like ‘Hello,’ and ‘Thank you,’ in various languages, they felt unfamiliar in sign language. I hope the drama provides an opportunity for viewers to think of sign language as something familiar and easy to approach.”
“When the Phone Rings” will premiere on November 22 at 9:50 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
