Yoo Yeon Seok will make an unexpected move on the next episode of MBC’s “When the Phone Rings”!
Based on a popular web novel, “When the Phone Rings” tells the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple that married for convenience—and the the romance that blossoms between them after a threatening phone call.

On the previous episode of “When the Phone Rings,” Baek Sa Eon and Hong Hee Joo had a fun time together at their work outing. However, things took a shocking turn when Hee Joo fell off a cliff, leaving Sa Eon frantically awaiting her nightly phone call. When the blackmailer “406” finally called, Sa Eon pretended not to know that it was Hee Joo calling as he figured out her location and rushed to find her.
In newly released stills from the drama’s next episode, Sa Eon once again speaks to “406” on the phone while pretending not to know who she is. Unlike in the past, when he was tense and on edge while talking to the mystery caller, Sa Eon now looks relaxed and even wears a faint smile as he speaks to the person he knows is his wife.
After thanking “406” for letting him know Hee Joo’s location, Sa Eon catches Hee Joo off guard with the change in his attitude as he interacts with the threatening caller. Unsure whether Sa Eon has caught on to her identity, Hee Joo gets explosively jealous over her husband’s unexpected flirting with “406.”
Later, Sa Eon proposes to “406” that they team up in order to catch the real kidnapper. A final photo shows Hee Joo on the phone at an amusement park late at night, piquing curiosity as to why she might be there on her own—and where Sa Eon is at that moment.
The “When the Phone Rings” production team teased, “Sa Eon will begin investigating in earnest to catch the dangerous kidnapper that threatened Hee Joo. Please stay tuned to see what methods he uses to protect Hee Joo.”
They added, “Please look forward to this episode, in which the feelings that [Sa Eon and Hee Joo] have been hiding up until now will finally explode.”
The next episode of “When the Phone Rings” will air on December 20 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
