tvN’s upcoming drama “Serendipity’s Embrace” (previously known as “Is It Fate?”) has shared new stills featuring Chae Jong Hyeop and Kim So Hyun!
Based on the popular webtoon, “Serendipity’s Embrace” will tell the story of young people finding true love and their dreams after accidentally running into their first love from 10 years ago. Kim So Hyun stars as Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to painful memories from her previous relationship—and who undergoes an unexpected change after running into Kang Hoo Young (Chae Jong Hyeop), who witnessed some of her lowest moments from her past.
The newly released stills depict a timeline from age 19, when their first love story begins, to age 29. It shows Lee Hong Joo and Kang Hoo Young’s first encounter at the school gate. Hong Joo casually drapes his arm around Hoo Young’s shoulders, sporting a natural smile, while Hoo Young appears somewhat aloof in contrast.
Hoo Young garners attention with his striking appearance and sharp intellect wherever he goes. However, he comes across as dry and cynical. In contrast, Hong Joo is impulsive and mischievous. She even delivered a love letter to Hoo Young in front of the men’s restroom.
After a decade, the two reunite at a blind date. Hoo Young is nervous, while Hong Joo remains composed. In subsequent photos, Hong Joo’s bright eyes as she holds Hoo Young’s shoulder are captured.
The reunion brings back memories of Hong Joo’s school days when she used to approach Hoo Young directly. She fell in love during her senior year but grew disillusioned after a tough breakup. Now, after 10 years, she encounters Hoo Young again, who witnessed her difficult times, leading to a transformation.
Hoo Young also reflects on his forgotten first love memories from Korea over the past decade, grappling with profound emotions.
Kim So Hyun and Chae Jong Hyeop aim to evoke viewers’ memories of their first love. Kim So Hyun remarked, “Actor Chae Jong Hyeop laughs a lot, so the atmosphere on set was always bright. Thanks to that, we had fun filming.”
Chae Jong Hyeop stated, “I think Kim So Hyun portrayed the role of Hong Joo in a more lovable and attractive way. Every scene with Hong Joo was enjoyable. Sometimes I even relied on her.”
“Serendipity’s Embrace” premieres on July 22 at 8:40 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
