tvN’s upcoming drama “The Queen Who Crowns” has unveiled new stills of Cha Joo Young ahead of its premiere!

“The Queen Who Crowns” will tell the story of the fiery life of Queen Won Kyung, a kingmaker who dreamed of a new world in the early days of the Joseon dynasty and made her husband, Lee Bang Won, a king with whom she shared the power of the throne. Although she was described in historical records only as “King Taejong’s wife” or “Mrs. Min” without her full name, the drama will reimagine history from the perspective of Queen Won Kyung, who lived an independent life without losing herself in spite of devastating betrayals and harsh reality.

In the new stills, Cha Joo Young portrays Queen Won Kyung wearing a regal purple gown, exuding a calm and graceful aura.

Sharing why she chose this project, Cha Joo Young said, “I’ve always wanted to try a historical drama. This one felt especially appealing with its rare and unique storyline.”

Regarding her character Won Kyung, the actress explained, “She was a woman who, during the chaotic period of the late Goryeo dynasty, chose the man she loved, and after the founding of Joseon, handled everything with dignity and responsibility as the queen.” She expressed her admiration for the character’s strength, remarking, “Her independent way of living, as she took full responsibility for the love and dreams she chose, can’t be fully expressed by the word ‘cool.’”

Cha Joo Young also spoke about the pressure she felt in taking on such a role. “The pressure that simply acting well wouldn’t be enough kept weighing on me,” she said. “I always acted boldly, thinking of myself as Queen Won Kyung.”

Finally, she encouraged viewers to watch the drama through to the end, teasing, “I hope viewers will watch Won Kyung’s journey of growth as she overcomes the limitations of her era and strengthens herself.”

“The Queen Who Crowns” premieres on January 6 at 8:50 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
