BTS member Suga is under fire once again due to benefit cuts for social service workers.
Sports Kyunghyang reported on August 21st that sources claim the special leave for group leaders among social service agents has been temporarily suspended. Serving as a social service agent is an alternative form of military service in South Korea, for those deemed unfit to serve as soldiers in a military base due to various factors such as health, financial difficulties and family situation. While the military manpower administration has stated that no decision has been made yet regarding the suspension of the speical leave, these rumors have gained significant attention.
Recently, there were reports and complaints alleging that the BTS member has been neglecting his duties as a social worker. Amidst these allegations, online communities for social service workers have been flooded with posts suggesting that Suga’s actions have led to the cancellation of special leave for team leaders.
Social service workers undergo a 4-night, 5-day training program at a social service training center. During this training, team leaders are selected, and upon successful completion of their duties, they are awarded a certificate of commendation and special leave. However, there are now claims that this special leave has been suspended.
Previous reports claimed that Suga was not fully engaged in his training duties despite his leadership role. These allegations have raised concerns about fairness and sparked media coverage and public complaints.
Following Suga’s recent DUI incident, additional complaints were filed, alleging that his lack of diligence in his duties was a reflection of his overall attitude. The military manpower administration is currently investigating these complaints.
One social service worker commented, “As a public figure and a team leader, he should have made more effort and avoided unnecessary controversies. Because of him, the biggest benefit for social service workers has been taken away.”
Another individual expressed their frustration, saying, “I can’t understand. Even if he’s in a place with only social service workers, as a world star and a public figure, he should have at least maintained a certain image. Did he really think he could get away with such blatant misconduct?”
