BTS member J-Hope became the second member to complete his military service.
J-Hope was discharged on October 17th morning after completing his military duties at the 36th Division Recruit Training Center in Wonju, Gangwon Province. His bandmate Jin was also present at the media event for his discharge.
J-Hope enlisted as an active-duty soldier in April last year. He served as an assistant instructor at the training center after finishing basic military training.
Upon his discharge, J-Hope shared his thoughts: “I’ve successfully completed my service in good health, and I’m so grateful. First, I want to thank the reporters who traveled a long way to be here, and of course, a huge thank you to the fans. It’s because of you that I was able to finish my service safely and in good health. Thank you also for taking good care of Jin. There’s so much I want to say. Over the past year and a half, serving as an assistant instructor, I did a lot of marches. During those times, I frequently met the citizens of Wonju, and I want to sincerely thank them for always greeting and cheering on the soldiers. It was incredibly touching, and I can’t quite express how deeply it moved me. What I’ve learned over the last year and a half is that so many soldiers are making enormous sacrifices and putting in incredible effort for our country. I hope our citizens will continue to show love and support for these soldiers because that love can only grow stronger. Thank you for waiting for me, and I’m so happy to be discharged in good health. Thank you.”
Earlier this year, in June, J-Hope also participated in a speech competition held at the War Memorial of Korea in Seoul, where he won first place.
