ARMY are not pleased with the current happenings over the weekend. After the news of Jin’s release from the Korean mandatory military service and all the BTS members reuniting together, ARMY were excited to hear that the members were beginning to promote as a group again. However, something went wrong at the free hug even with member Jin.
On June 13th, Jin held a free hug event for ARMY following the end of his mandatory military service at the Seoul Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium. Fans gathered and lined up for such an amazing opportunity and a lucky 1,000 people were accepted. A majority of fans were grateful and respected Jin’s personal space and person while receiving their free hugs and give gifts or words of encouragement quickly. However, trouble reared its ugly head in paradise as fan cameras captured two fans in particular who attempted to kiss Jin on his cheek while hugging him.
On a community site, user ‘A’ stated “In the middle of Jin’s offline fan meeting celebrating his military discharge, video and photos were reported that some fans attempted sexual harassment by trying to kiss Jin without his consent. This angered me as a fan who enjoys BTS’ music. The fans who sexually harassed Jin should be immediately investigated and punished under Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act for ‘molestation in a crowded place’ and more.” See the photos that drove fans angry down below.
Fans commented, “This meaningful event got trashed,” “That’s sexual harassment, period,” “I’m not surprised this happened… but it is still wrong,” and “I’m surprised…. that not even one of those girls ‘accidentally’ brushed their hands against his nether regions.”
After more investigation, it was revealed that the two fans were Japanese. Korean netizens did some digging and found Japanese articles revealing the ethnicity of the two “fans” being charged with sexual harassment and that one of them is even a famous blogger. After visiting the famous blogger’s webpage, it was noted that she even made a post saying, “Jin’s skin was very soft and smooth.”
The Korean netizen who left the post also revealed, “I found these on a Japanese website and she (the fan) seems like a famous pervert (?) and Japanese people are slandering them a lot too.” Some even called them an “embarrassment to Japan” and apologized on their behalf. See the official blog photos here.
Appalled netizens continue to share their disgust saying, “Seeing the photos made me want to throw up,” and “That blog is repulsive.”
What do you think of this entire situation? Such a good thing soiled by the greed of so-called-fans would anger any K-Pop fan. Do you think the two Japanese fans should be charged with sexual harassment? Should HYBE take action and address the situation? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
