EXO’s Baekhyun recently shared his experience performing the national anthem in front of Major League Baseball players. In the 5th episode of the web variety show Shootbro, Baekhyun discussed his emotions while singing the South Korean and American national anthems during the MLB Seoul Series. On March 21, he was invited to perform the anthem at the Gocheok Sky Dome for the second game of the MLB season opener between the LA Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.
Host Shin Dong Yup asked Baekhyun, “You’re known for your great speaking and singing, but how was it performing the U.S. national anthem? It must be quite different from your usual stage performances.” Baekhyun responded, “When I step onto a stage, I always feel like I need to be the biggest presence there, to really own the moment and impress everyone.” He added that standing on the Gocheok Sky Dome field felt intimidating, saying, “It felt like I was a pinprick in the stadium. I was definitely nervous.”
Shin Dong Yup noted, “The LA Dodgers players were there, and even Shohei Ohtani appeared.” Baekhyun admitted, “I suddenly thought, ‘Why am I here?’ The players seemed much bigger in person than on TV. I questioned whether I should really be performing there. It was probably the most nervous I’ve ever been since my debut.”
Meanwhile, Baekhyun has been on his first solo concert tour, the 2024 Asia Tour Lonsdaleite, since March. On the 6th, he released his mini-album Hello, World, marking his return as a solo artist after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus.
