Fans of K-dramas and manhwas can rejoice as the anime adaptation of “True Beauty” is finally coming to Crunchyroll. “True Beauty” is a well-known name in the manhwa and K-drama communities. Written and illustrated by Na-young Kim, this romantic comedy began as a webtoon in 2018, before finally concluding in 2023.

The famous manhwa was later adapted into a romantic K-drama starring Moon Ka-young, Cha Eun-woo, Hwang In-youp and Park Yoo-na. The TV series first aired in 2020 and has 16 episodes. Now, this series is preparing to conquer another medium by becoming an anime. The anime is co-produced by Crunchyroll and Naver Webtoons, while Studio N and Cocktail Media are handling the animation. The anime series has been broadcast exclusively on Crunchyroll since August 7, 2024. As of now, the number of episodes has not yet been announced.

An anime version of the K-drama “True Beauty” is now available on Crunchyroll K-Sélection

“True Beauty” tells the story of Lim Jugyoung, a young girl who was bullied by her peers in middle school because of her appearance. Determined to no longer suffer the same humiliations in high school, she decides to transform her appearance using makeup while keeping it a secret. Since then, everything seems to be going well for her, with everyone fascinated by her beauty, but things are about to change.

When the attractive Lee Suho enrolls in her high school, he quickly becomes popular and eventually discovers his true colors. The rest of the story follows Jugyoung who does everything to prevent Suho from revealing his secret. True to any romantic manhwa, there are many dramatic and thrilling moments throughout the story.

K-drama and manhwa fans are really looking forward to the anime. As one user wrote on X: “The K-drama was awesome, I’m curious to see the anime!” ». “The K-drama was a great experience, I wonder if an anime can live up to it. A Japanese-language series supposedly set in Korea, it sounded a little strange when I watched ‘Solo Leveling,’ but I’ll give it a try anyway,” shared another. “My webtoon got a K-drama, and now an anime. I really have the best taste,” commented a third.
