Song Hye Kyo shared how she began her acting career, her experiences with 28 years of hate comments and her honest thoughts on it all.
The actress first shared that she debuted through a school uniform modeling contest at 17. She won the grand prize, which eventually led to her appearance in Soonpoong Clinic the following year. She revealed, “My friend and I submitted a photo we took on a picnic. The next day, my name wasn’t on the list of finalists, so I thought I didn’t make it. Later, I received a call.”
She added, “I went to the competition without any makeup and with just freshly washed hair, and I ended up winning the grand prize.” She shared that the prize money of 3 million won was used for her mother’s medical treatment.
After her debut, Song Hye Kyo rose to stardom as a Hallyu star, starring in Soonpoong Clinic at 18 and Autumn in My Heart at 20.
When asked if achieving such success at a young age made her anxious, she replied, “I wasn’t particularly anxious in my 20s. I was too busy having fun.” She recalled, “Sometimes, I’d be annoyed about going to work because I just wanted to hang out with my friends. I would think, ‘What should I do after this project is over?’”
However, she regretted not taking on more roles in her 20s. “I wish I had done more projects. But even so, I feel like I fully enjoyed my 20s as an actress and as a woman. I don’t think that time was wasted. I traveled a lot and worked on great projects. I think I enjoyed my 20s to the fullest.”

Regarding rumors surrounding her, she commented, “Sometimes during interviews or when meeting people I don’t know well, they bring up rumors that aren’t true. I’d just say, ‘I heard that too. Go ask the person who made up that rumor.’” She also said, “I’ve received so much hate over the years that I’ve become okay with it. But when those malicious comments are directed at my family, it breaks my heart.”
Song Hye Kyo revealed that she practiced a form of self-reflection for five years to overcome such difficulties with the advice of writer Noh Hee Kyung, Every morning, she writes about how she wanted to spend her day, and every evening, she lists ten things she was grateful for that day.
She shared, “Starting to appreciate small things makes me realize there’s so much to be thankful for.” She concluded by discussing how this practice positively changed her mindset.
