Channel A’s upcoming drama “Check in Hanyang” has released a new poster featuring Kim Eui Sung!
Set in the Joseon Dynasty, “Check in Hanyang” is a historical romance drama that depicts the growth and love stories of youths who join as “interns” at Yongcheonru, the largest inn in Joseon.
“Check in Hanyang” will captivate viewers with its unique hotel-centered narrative, something that has never been seen in Korean historical dramas. Yongcheonru, Joseon’s top guesthouse, operates on the philosophy “the customer is king.” At Yongcheonru, money dictates everything, not social status. Lavishly decorated beyond even the royal palace, Yongcheonru is owned by Cheon Bang Ju (Kim Eui Sung), a wealthy man with great influence in Hanyang.
Cheon Bang Ju is not merely a wealthy merchant, but a man who holds the reins of power in Joseon. His financial dominance extends even over the royal family, making him the ultimate target of Prince Lee Eun (Bae In Hyuk). Meanwhile, Hong Deok Soo (Kim Ji Eun) enters Yongcheonru to uncover the secrets behind her father’s death. Cheon Bang Ju’s son, Cheon Jun Hwa (Jung Gun Joo), stands at the center of a power succession struggle, while Go Soo Ra (Jaechan) embarks on a new challenge at Yongcheonru in search of the key to rebuilding his family’s fortune.
The newly released poster captures Cheon Bang Ju with a commanding aura. In the poster, he sits elegantly on a luxurious cushion while writing in a ledger. He commands attention with his piercing gaze, while the lavish setting of his residence signifies his immense wealth and authority.
The folding screen behind him is reminiscent of the painted screen often placed behind the royal throne, hinting that Cheon Bang Ju wields power greater than that of a king. The dragon emblem on his collar and the golden dragon carving on the paperweight further symbolize his vast wealth and influence. His casual use of royal symbols like the dragon suggests his bold stance toward the royal family.
The caption on the poster—“A world ruled by wealth, not status, will come”—reveals Cheon Bang Ju’s philosophy and ambition. It also hints at the fierce power struggles he will wage using money as his ultimate weapon.
