The impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol was passed on December 14th, and now, all eyes are on how various K-pop stars have shown their support for fans during the rallies.
Girls’ Generation’s “Into the New World” has become an anthem at the impeachment rallies, and member Yuri gained attention for prepaying meals for fans attending the protests.
On December 13th, Kwon Yuri reached out to fans through the group’s official fan platform, encouraging them to “Eat some kimbap tomorrow and stay full!” She added, “Stay safe, stay healthy, and sing ‘Into the New World’ loud and proud.” To show her support, Yuri prepaid for kimbap at a shop in the Yeongdeungpo district, Seoul, allowing fans to pick up a roll by presenting a Girls’ Generation light stick.
Earlier, Yuri had shared her thoughts on the song’s popularity at the rallies, saying, “I saw ‘Into the New World’ resonating everywhere—it was amazing. I’m listening to it every day along with you.”
Girls’ Generation’s debut song, “Into the New World”, released in 2007, has seen a major resurgence on streaming charts, earning the nickname “the new anthem of the people.” Between December 3rd and 9th, following the December 3rd martial law declaration, the song’s listener count on Melon increased by 23% compared to the previous week.
IU also showed her support for fans attending the rallies by gifting them food. She prepaid at five locations near the protest site in Yeouido, offering fans 200 bread rolls, 100 rice cakes, 200 drinks, and even 200 bowls of rice soup.
NewJeans joined in by announcing on their new Instagram account (@jeanzforfree) that they had prepared meals for Bunnies and other attendees. In a video message, the members shared, “We hope you enjoy some warm food and stay healthy in the cold weather,” expressing their love and support.
The meals NewJeans provided included 110 servings of kimbap, 250 drinks, 100 bowls of chicken soup, 50 bowls of rice soup with broth, and 50 bowls of dumpling soup—a total of 560 servings, all prepaid.
