tvN’s upcoming historical drama “The Queen Who Crowns” has unveiled new stills of Lee Yi Dam and Lee Si Ah!
“The Queen Who Crowns” tells the story of Queen Wongyeong (Cha Joo Young), a kingmaker who dreamed of a new world in the early days of the Joseon dynasty and made her husband, Lee Bang Won (Lee Hyun Wook), a king with whom she shared the power of the throne. Although she was described in historical records only as “King Taejong’s wife” or “Mrs. Min” without her full name, the drama will reimagine history from the perspective of Queen Wongyeong, who lived an independent life without losing herself in spite of devastating betrayals and harsh reality.
The newly released stills capture Chae Ryeong (Lee Yi Dam), a former queen’s maid who becomes a concubine of the king after catching his attention. Her change in status complicates her relationship with Queen Wongyeong, who had trusted her.
In the stills, Chae Ryeong’s innocent expression as a maid contrasts with her complicated, harder-to-read demeanor as a concubine, where her gaze toward the queen is sharp and intriguing, hinting at a shift in her character.
In contrast to Chae Ryeong, who masks her true feelings with a poker face, Yeong Sil (Lee Si Ah), a concubine who bore the king’s child, is more open in expressing her love and desires toward Lee Bang Won.
The new stills highlight how Yeong Sil boldly uses her son to pressure Wongyeong, along with her incomparable beauty, which adds to the pressure felt by the queen.
The production team of the drama commented, “The desires of Chae Ryeong and Yeong Sil, and how they shake up Wongyeong and Bang Won, are key points to look forward to in ‘The Queen Who Crowns.’”
They continued, “Lee Yi Dam and Lee Si Ah bring out the charms of their respective characters through their exceptional performances. Their portrayals of their characters—each of whom holds her own key to the conflict—enrich the dramatic narrative, making it even more enjoyable to watch. Please look forward to their performances.”
“The Queen Who Crowns” will premiere on January 6 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
