The news of MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna’s passing has led to an outpouring of tributes from viewers and netizens.
Newsen reported on December 10th that Oh Yoanna passed away in September at the age of 28, and MBC confirmed the news to Newsen, stating, “It is true that Oh Yoanna has passed away.”
Before her death, Oh Yoanna shared her deep love for her work as a weathercaster on her social media accounts. Outside of work, she frequently posted about her daily activities, including running and other forms of exercise.
This picture was her last post before she passed away on September 12th.
Before her death, Oh Yoanna shared her medical record stating “a fall resulting in a broken tooth” and “fractures to other facial areas.”
In her post, she explained, “I won’t be able to present the 930 weather forecast this week due to a facial injury,” and expressed her gratitude to the colleague who stepped in to handle the forecast in her place. She passed away later in September, though the exact cause and time of her death have not been disclosed.
Born in 1996, Oh Yoanna was beloved by viewers throughout her career as a weathercaster at MBC. She not only appeared on MBC’s weather broadcasts but also gained attention for her appearance on the tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block in November 2022.
After guesting on You Quiz, Oh Yoanna shared, “The most common thing I hear after the broadcast is, ‘I saw you on You Quiz.’ It was such an honor to introduce the profession of weathercaster. It’s a memory I’ll always cherish, especially as someone still learning. I’m truly thankful to the production team and my colleagues. I’ll continue to learn humbly and do my best.”
