MBC’s “When the Phone Rings” has released behind-the-scenes photos of Yoo Yeon Seok, Chae Soo Bin, Heo Nam Jun, and Jang Gyuri!

Based on a popular web novel, “When the Phone Rings” tells the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple that married for convenience—and the romance that blossoms between them after a threatening phone call.

“When the Phone Rings” is winning fans with its leads’ standout performances, while director Park Sang Woo’s stylish direction and Kim Ji Woon’s gripping script have elevated the series beyond the original material.

The storyline of Baek Sa Eon and Hong Hee Joo has proven particularly captivating, drawing viewers in with its addictive drama. As director Park Sang Woo put it, “At first, their romance seems like a strategic marriage of convenience, but it’s actually a story of true love that’s lasted more than 20 years.”

In the final moments of Episode 4, Hee Joo heard her husband’s true feelings over the phone when Baek Sa Eon, “Hee Joo is not an appendix, but an entirely new language.” Hee Joo realized that Sa Eon’s earlier coldness was his way of avoiding getting too emotionally attached, and she found comfort in their rooftop conversation. However, when she wound up face to face with Sa Eon while holding the phone, viewers were left wondering if she had been exposed as the one behind the threats.

To make up for last week’s canceled episodes, the “When the Phone Rings” production team has released behind-the-scenes photos from Episodes 1 to 4 that showcase the cast’s energy on set.

Before filming, Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin worked closely with the director, putting in a lot of effort to bring the drama to life. Their undeniable chemistry also helped them quickly immerse themselves in their roles.

After filming, they reviewed their scenes with serious focus, highlighting their professionalism. During their many phone call scenes, Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin stood by and read lines to each other over the phone even when they weren’t being filmed on camera, enhancing the realism of their acting.

Meanwhile, Heo Nam Jun went into intense focus mode, collaborating with the director to fully understand his character. Jang Gyuri, known for her positive energy, kept smiling while studying the script, spreading enthusiasm on set right up until filming began.

Episode 5 of “When the Phone Rings” will air on December 13 at 9:40 p.m. KST, and Episode 6 will air on December 14 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
