[+111, -11] Haven’t seen them in a while and looks like this is how it ends. This is what I’ve been saying, that K-Pop’s style of training will never work on kids with a western mindset. It’s not like JYP is new to producing groups or anything, so it makes me wonder if this level of abuse actually went on, but an allegation is an allegation, and JYP can’t do much other than to allow her to terminate the contract for the sake of preserving their image. Localization can never be the future of K-Pop… K-Pop companies can work with foreign entertainment companies all they want but it’s always going to end with idols filing lawsuits and wanting it all for themselves. The thing about Korean agencies is that they will take you and transform you from head to toe, basically reborn you with their training, which these foreigners abuse by turning around and saying the culture doesn’t fit with them, etc. If K-Pop agencies can endure that, then go ahead and try to localize, otherwise you’re just wasting time and resources on people who will never respect that investment..

– [+27, -3] Wow, I agree.. JYP has been in this game for a long time, and is considered one of the biggest agencies. I doubt they were committing abuse that’s being alleged here. I’m thinking foreigners consider dieting and reprimanding during training as verbal abuse (but I will admit that Koreans have a nasty way of saying things that can definitely hurt westerners’ feelings)… I just think the abuse is an excuse for these idols to be able to leave their teams that they know is a flop

– [+27, -1] That’s just how the Korean education system is. We nag and criticize and push you to your limits. If you’re not Asian or used to that, I can see how that can be seen as abusive.

– [+31, -1] In the minds of westerners, anyone managing your diet is considered abuse. Which, I guess I can agree with… even though I think JYP is one of the more lenient agencies when it comes to dieting ㅜ If things were going well for this group, I doubt she would’ve taken this lawsuit so far… but the group’s flopping, she’s under a ton of micromanagement and pressure, so she’d rather just blow it all up than suffer from the mental effects of it

[+53, -26] If true, I’m disappointed in JYP

[+32, -11] Very disappointed in JYP

[+27, -1] It’ll be difficult for any foreigner to adhere to the strict training diets of Korean idols

[+16, -2] I feel like this is all well known stuff about idol trainee life in Korea. Why willingly walk into that and then realize that it’s all true and get mad only then? Why not just leave quietly? Is this how westerners are? Unless you’re as strict as Korean companies are, skills will never improve and idols will never manage themselves. This is the secret to the Korean training system. Why do foreigners think they get to have a say in how we do things over here? Now I’m worried about how KATSEYE is going to end up

[+10, -1] Let’s just keep these idol groups to Koreans only. We’ve been fine all along. Fighting.

[+7, -0] Foreigners cannot handle K-idol training… I can totally see how they’d consider it abuse

[+3, -0] I feel no sympathy… it’s like a foreigner willingly going into taking the Korean med school exams knowing how brutal it is and then acting horrified when they realize how actually brutal it is

[+2, -0] Putting foreigners in Korean style training was wrong from the get go. Only kids grown in Asian households will be submissive to such strict standards, why would western kids ever submit to that ㅋㅋㅋ

[+1, -0] Weight management and lifestyle restrictions only work with Korean kids… it’s considered abuse everywhere else. I don’t know the details of her complaints but JYP’s been pretty known for being strict with diets and yelling at trainees a lot during recording practices, plus tons of choreography training.

[+1, -0] I don’t see how it’d be easy for westerners to adjust to the K-pop system
