MBC’s upcoming drama “When the Phone Rings” has shared a suspenseful new glimpse of its premiere!
Based on a popular web novel, “When the Phone Rings” will tell the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple that married for convenience—and the the romance that blossoms between them after a threatening phone call.
In newly released stills from the drama, presidential spokesperson Baek Sa Eon and his wife Hong Hee Joo—who are in the third year of their contract marriage—make their first-ever public appearance together at a formal embassy party.
Although they have already been married for three years, because they are never seen in public together, no one knows that Hong Hee Joo is the wife of the famous Baek Sa Eon. As their marriage is strictly business and they rarely exchange any words even at home, the couple is awkward and tense during their first social outing.
Eventually, the normally quiet Hong Hee Joo explodes during the event, piquing curiosity as to what could have gone wrong. Visibly upset and passionately complaining to Baek Sa Eon in sign language, Hong Hee Joo startles her husband by finally unleashing all of her anger towards him that she’s been bottling up for years.
In the final photos, Baek Sa Eon receives another threatening phone call from his wife’s kidnapper, who calls every night at 10 p.m. After checking his watch, Baek Sa Eon carefully scans his surroundings in search of the caller, who seems to be at the party as well.
The drama’s production team teased, “From Episode 1, ‘show-window couple’ Baek Sa Eon and Hong Hee Joo’s relationship will be shaken. Our drama is full of exciting stories that will make the time fly by, so don’t miss tonight’s premiere.”
“When the Phone Rings” will premiere on November 22 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
