Lee Young Ae (53) and her husband Jung Ho Young (73) made headlines after attending the 14th Artist of the Year Award together.
The awards ceremony took place on the 24th at Stage 28 in Gangdong, Seoul. Hosted by the Shin Young Kyun Arts & Culture Foundation, chaired by Ahn Sung Ki, the awards celebrate standout figures in film, theater, and independent cinema, as well as contributions in public service. Since its inception in 2011, the event has honored top artists annually, awarding a total of KRW 100 million (approx. $75,000) across five categories, with each winner receiving KRW 20 million.
Lee Young Ae took to the stage as a presenter for the “Film Artist Award,” stepping in for last year’s winner, Lee Jung Jae, who could not attend. “This year’s recipient is Hwang Jung Min. I’m so pleased to present this to such a remarkable actor,” she said. “He has captured the hearts of many with his versatile performances in films like ‘12.12: The Day’ and ‘I, the Executioner,’ and has significantly contributed to the growth of the film industry.”
However, the evening’s spotlight wasn’t just on the awards—it was also on Lee’s rare appearance with her husband. Jung Ho Young, a Korean-American businessman, is known for his immense wealth, estimated at KRW 2 trillion (approx. $1.5 billion). The couple, who first appeared together publicly at the 12th Artist of the Year Award in 2022, returned to the event after two years. Lee Young Ae married Jung Ho Young in 2009 and gave birth to fraternal twins in 2011.
This year’s award recipients included Hwang Jung Min for the “Film Artist Award,” Shin Mina for the “Good People Artist Award,” director Sohn Jin Chaek for the “Theater Artist Award,” Kim Dong Ho, the founding director of the Busan International Film Festival, for the “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and director Kim Deog Young for the “Independent Film Artist Award” for his work on The Birth of Korea.
