In episode 14 of tvN’s weekend drama Love Next Door aired on the 29th, Jung So Min turned down Jung Hae In’s proposal. The episode’s ratings recorded an average of 8.2% and a peak of 9.4% in the Seoul metropolitan area, while nationwide, it reached an average of 7.1% and a peak of 8.0%, securing first place in its time slot (Nielsen Korea).

In this episode, Choi Seung Hyo (Jung Hae In) offered endless support to Bae Seok Ryu (Jung So Min), who was struggling with low self-esteem due to her job search. But with Seung Hyo’s genuine encouragement, Seok Ryu wins third place in a cooking contest, reigniting her passion for the cooking vlogs she used to film in the States.

Choi Seung Hyo, meanwhile, was preparing a proposal for Seok Ryu. But his “D-Day” was filled with one unpredictable disaster after another. The car carrying flowers was towed after a minor collision, and the cake, the centerpiece of the event, ended up smashed on the ground.

With nothing going as planned, the two returned to Seung Hyo’s Atelier. Though slightly delayed, he finally presented a bracelet and proposed. However, Seok Ryu responded calmly yet firmly, “I can’t get married. No, I won’t.” Everything about the proposal had gone off the rails, but Seok Ryu’s refusal was the biggest shock.

But her refusal wasn’t about Seung Hyo—it was about Seok Ryu herself. She was anxious about the possibility of a relapse of her cancer. However, Seung Hyo’s heartfelt sincerity eventually melted Seok Ryu’s heart. In tears, Seok Ryu accepted his second proposal, saying, “I want to live with you. Whether it’s a hundred years, ten years, or even just one day, it has to be with you.”

But just as the emotional moment unfolded, Na Mi Sook, Bae Geun Sik (Cho Han Cheol), Seo Hye Sook, and Choi Kyung Jong (Lee Seung Jun) appeared. The families were caught off guard, their reactions ranging from shock to confusion as they saw Choi Seung Hyo holding Bae Seok Ryu. Adding fuel to the fire was the ongoing rift between Na Mi Sook (Park Ji Young) and Seo Hye Sook (Jang Young Nam), who had declared their “complete breakup” of friendship over cruise trip expenses. The shift from “Sweetness of Love” to “Bitterness of Life” in the episode’s tagline heightened anticipation for the final two episodes.
