Park Seo Joon discussed his chemistry with Yoon Chae Ok in the new season of Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature and highlighted what makes Season 2 stand out.
The Season 2 press event was held on September 25th at Seoul Dragon City. Park Seo Joon shared, “My chemistry with Han So Hee improved while filming Season 2, and we also became closer on a personal level.”
He added, “Since the setting is modern, we were able to use more natural dialogue. There was a bit of tension when our characters first met in Season 1, and we carried that dynamic into Season 2.”
Speaking about what sets Season 2 apart, Park Seo Joon said, “Well, the characters’ names are different from Season 1. In Season 1, we did a lot of filming on sets and in the countryside because of the historical setting. But Season 2 has a modern backdrop, so it felt new even though it’s the same series. Moving from the past to the present brought a new energy. I also enjoyed exploring different ways to play this character. I thought updating the styling was key in highlighting the differences. The change in setting also meant the characters had different jobs, which affected how I played them. Figuring out the emotional arc was challenging but exciting at the same time.”
Han So Hee added, “Cha Ok is the same character but in a different time period. So I had to show how time has passed. Instead of focusing on how the era changed her, I focused on expressing the years she’s lived. She’s a character who’s endured everything alone, so I tried to imagine what it was like for her to survive all that time. Cha Ok has always been selfless, both in the past and present. She’s someone who dedicates her life to helping others, especially by finding missing people. In the past, she had ambitions, but as time went on, she lost her sense of purpose.”
She continued, “Since Najin is her source of strength, she can’t afford to have her identity exposed. That’s why she lives in the shadows, which naturally led to darker styling.”
Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 is set in 2024 Seoul, where Cha Ok meets Ho Jae, a man who resembles late Tae Sang. Together, they unravel the unfinished business from Gyeongseong’s past. The series follows up on Season 1, which was released last December and January.
Returning as Jang Ho Jae, who resembles Gyeongseong’s top pawnshop owner Jang Tae Sang, is Park Seo Joon. Han So Hee reprises her role as Yoon Cha Ok, now searching for missing people in Seoul after being known as Gyeongseong’s skilled tracker in Season 1. New cast members include Lee Mu Saeng as Kuroko, the leader of Jeonseung Pharmaceuticals’ elite secret agents, and Bae Hyun Sung as Seung Jo, a standout among the Kuroko.
Season 2, which premieres on the 27th, has been re-edited in response to the divided reactions from Season 1. Fans are eager to see if the changes will resonate better this time around.
