Netflix has released the official teaser poster and trailer for Uprising, an epic historical drama set during the Japanese invasion of Korea, set to debut on October 11th.
The film follows the turbulent story of Jong Ryeo (Park Jung Min), the son of a prestigious military family, and his servant Cheon Yeong (Kang Dong Won). Once close friends despite their differences in social status, the two are torn apart by war and circumstance, only to meet again as enemies—Jong Ryeo as a trusted warrior of King Seonjo (Cha Seung Won), and Cheon Yeong as a guerrilla fighter.
The teaser poster offers a powerful image of the two standing face-to-face, swords drawn, with the contrasting blue and red robes symbolizing the stark difference in their fates. In the background, commoners wielding farm tools and torches bring to life the chaotic era where no one could escape the clutches of war.
The trailer opens with flashbacks of Jong Ryeo and Cheon Yeong sharing moments of camaraderie, despite their status as master and servant. A line from Jong Ryeo, “So a man can befriend his dog, but not his slave?” sets the tone for their complex relationship. We see the two exchanging symbols of their bond, only for their friendship to unravel when Cheon Yeong’s aspirations to regain his original status as a commoner are crushed.
As the Imjin War erupts, the two find themselves on opposing sides. Cheon Yeong, now known as the fearsome guerrilla fighter “the blue-robed god,” battles the invading forces, while Jong Ryeo, a close aide to the king, faces off against his former friend with the chilling line, “A dog that bites its master must be put to death.” The trailer teases the explosive tension and breathtaking action sequences between the two.
In addition to the central conflict, the film promises an ensemble of powerful performances. Kim Shin Rock as the gritty guerrilla fighter Beom Dong, Jin Sun Kyu as the noble leader Kim Ja Ryeong, Jung Sung Il as the ruthless Japanese commander Genshin, and Cha Seung Won as the cowardly king who abandons his people all shine in their respective roles.
The final moments of the trailer deliver an emotional punch with Cheon Yeong’s line, “I cannot go on this way any longer,” leaving viewers eagerly anticipating how each character will fight against their destined path in the chaos of war.
Uprising will be available exclusively on Netflix starting October 11th.
