The series The Frog, starring Kim Yun-seok, Go Min-si, Lee Jung-eun, and Yoon Kye-sang, premiered on Netflix on August 23 with eight episodes. The story takes place in a forest, where Jeon Yeong-ha, played by Kim Yun-seok, runs a vacation home.
His quiet life is turned upside down when a mysterious client, Yoo Seong-a (Go Min-si), rents the house for a day in the summer. Meanwhile, in the early 2000s, Koo Sang-jun (Yoon Kye-sang) ran a motel in the same city. A terrible incident forced the closure of his motel, leaving him with nothing.
On the other hand, Yoon Bo-min (Lee Jung-eun) is a police officer who started working near the motel, which marked her first case. Twenty years later, she is still in the same position, becoming a crucial link between Jeon Yeong-ha and Koo Sang-jun’s stories.
In episode 7, Yoo Seong-a manipulates Jeon Yeong-ha into helping her hide the body of someone she killed in exchange for the location of her daughter, Jeon Ui-seon. When they arrive at the lake, Yoo Seong-a shows him a red suitcase where his daughter would be locked. But when she opens the suitcase, it is empty, and the police, led by Yoon Bo-min, arrive to arrest her. It is then discovered that Jeon Yeong-ha and Yoon Bo-min had planned all this to save the girl and catch Yoo Seong-a.
In episode 8, Yoon Bo-min arrests Yoo Seong-a, but without a warrant, so she is quickly released thanks to her influential father. Refusing to leave town, Yoo Seong-a sets fire to the laundromat and returns to the vacation home to retrieve his passport.
The next day, she is surprised to find her ex-husband, Ha Jae-sik, armed with a gun instead of her lawyer. She confesses to killing her son, Ha Si-hyeon, and claims his body is hidden where he can never find it. When Jeon Yeong-ha arrives, she accuses him of being complicit in erasing the evidence.
Eventually, Yoon Bo-min discovers the body of a police colleague that Yoo Seong-a had hidden. She returns home to stop him, but things get complicated. Ha Jae-sik loses his rifle, which Yoo Seong-a tries to use, but there are no more bullets. Yoo Seong-a manages to escape, but Ha Jae-sik later finds her and kills her.
The series ends on a rather positive note. Although the vacation home ceases operation, Jeon Yeong-ha and her relatives continue to gather there. It is also suggested that Koo Gi-ho, another key character, wants to meet Jeon Yeong-ha. However, Netflix has not confirmed anything for a season 2, and the story seems concluded.
Do you think a season 2 would be necessary to further explore these characters?
