tvN’s upcoming drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” has unveiled its first posters, setting the stage in the world of Korean traditional theater!
Based on a popular webtoon, the drama is directed by Jung Ji In, known for “The Red Sleeve.” Set in the 1950s, shortly after the Korean War, the series follows Jeong Nyeon, a young vocal prodigy who dreams of becoming a top traditional theater actor. The show explores Jeong Nyeon’s journey through competition, teamwork, and personal growth amid the era’s poverty and romance.
The cast includes Kim Tae Ri, who takes on the titular role of Jung Nyeon, alongside Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Eun Chae, Kim Yoon Hye, and special guest Moon So Ri. The impressive cast has generated high anticipation for the drama’s release.
The poster features the drama’s main setting, the “Gukguek-dan,” a female Korean classical opera ensemble, and depicts the five central characters performing with the era’s leading troupe, the Maeran Women’s Gukguek-dan.
Kim Tae Ri stars as Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a talented young woman who moves from Mokpo to Seoul to pursue a career in traditional theater. Her expressive eyes are expected to captivate viewers. Shin Ye Eun plays Heo Yeong Seo, a character known for her prestigious family background and her skills in singing, dancing, and acting. Her intense gaze suggests a compelling rivalry with Jeong Nyeon.
Ra Mi Ran, as Kang So Bok, head of the Maeran Women’s Gukguek-dan, brings a commanding presence to the role. Jung Eun Chae, portraying the “prince” Moon Ok Kyeong, and Kim Yoon Hye, as the “princess” Seo Hye Rang, also shine with their star qualities.
The production team stated, “We’ve worked hard to highlight the charm of 1950s women’s national theater. Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Eun Chae, and Kim Yoon Hye have delivered outstanding performances, captured through director Jung Ji In’s stylish direction. This drama combines strong acting, direction, and storytelling, and we hope you’re excited for it.”
“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” premieres on October 12.
