Netflix’s record-breaking series Squid Game has officially announced the premiere date for its highly anticipated second season, along with a surprise reveal of the final season.

The streaming giant confirmed, “Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ will premiere on December 26th, with the final season, Season 3, set to debut in 2025.”

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared his excitement in a heartfelt letter that begins with “The real game begins.” He expressed his joy and anticipation, saying, “I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season.”

He teased the storyline for the upcoming seasons, asking, “Seong Gi Hun, who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge?” Hwang also hinted at intense new battles for the new contestants that will unfold into Season 3, promising, “We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”

Netflix also released a still from Season 2, featuring lead actor Lee Jung Jae as Seong Gi Hun, donning the iconic tracksuit with the number 456, heightening fans’ curiosity. Unlike his appearance at the end of Season 1, just before boarding a flight to the U.S., Gi Hun now has shorter black. As the only survivor and winner of Season 1, who had turned back on his way to see his daughter, the question arises: why and how does he return to the game?

Returning cast members for Season 2 include Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo. The new season will also introduce fresh faces like Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Park Gyu Young, Jo Yuri, Kang Ae Sim, Lee Jin Wook, and Won Ji An.
