On the upcoming episode of KBS show Stars’ Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant, Kim Jae Joong introduces his oldest sister, 20 years his senior, for the first time on television.
In the coming episode airing on the 5th, Kim Jae Joong receives a call from his eldest sister, who humorously asks, “I heard you made side dishes for the other sisters? Why didn’t I get any?” This comes after a previous episode where the singer sent homemade radish salad to three of his sisters and nieces, prompting his eldest sister to call and playfully demand her share. Laughing, Kim Jae Joong invites her to his house, promising to cook something delicious for her.
When she arrives, it marks her first appearance on the TV. She enjoys the meal prepared by her brother while offering candid feedback, providing plenty of laughs. As they eat, the siblings reminisce about their past.
Kim Jae Joong recalls, “I still feel bad for my nieces. When I had nowhere to go, my sister offered me a room.” At 16, Kim moved to Seoul to pursue his dream of becoming a singer, facing significant financial difficulties. He reminisces, “As a trainee, I did a lot of day labor jobs and often walked across the Han River bridge because I couldn’t afford the bus fare.” That’s when his married sister had invited him to live with her.
Kim explains, “My sister, her husband, their two children, and my sister’s mother-in-law were all living together.” He expresses his gratitude and guilt towards his nieces, who gave up their room for him, and his deep appreciation for his sister’s mother-in-law, who also supported him. His sister adds, “She (the mother-in-law) still talks about you,” as they share touching memories of the support he received.
Kim Jae Joong’s heartfelt gratitude towards his family for supporting his dreams moves everyone on the Fun-Staurant set to tears, which you can check on July 5th at 8:30 PM KST.
