“My Sweet Mobster” is slowly but surely picking up its pace into its plot, gifting us not only with greatly funny moments but also key points that most likely will be important for the development of the story. In this week’s episodes, Go Eun Ha (Han Sun Hwa) has to face many struggles that will lead her to a peculiar situation with Seo Ji Hwan (Um Tae Goo), making each of them realizing several things that until then could have gone unnoticed or are hard to swallow until that moment.
Warning: spoilers from episodes 3-4 ahead!
1. Go Eun Ha’s reach and impact of her work as a video creator
Since episode 1, Go Eun Ha (Han Sun Hwa) has made it clear that she loves what she does as a video content creator, since sharing nice games and funny content to children is something she truly enjoys. However, after the big accident that resulted with many kids suffering from food poisoning, she inevitably has to face a reality check. So far, she has believed that as long as she genuinely cared for the children, her content wouldn’t cause any harm, but she finally has to accept that maybe she was in the wrong. That is why she passively accepts to bear the consequences from the backlash and decides to shut down her channel for a while.
Though it is totally unfair, she doesn’t delve too much into this and instead she starts to look for new employment, but this mission appears to be harder than she expected at first. So she puts her pride aside and accepts the offer from her colleague Kang Ye Na (Song Seo Rin) to clean her house, although later on Eun Ha realizes Kang Ye Na’s intentions weren’t genuine. But this doesn’t discourage her because what truly breaks her heart is not being able to properly say goodbye to her little followers. Though no one is more disappointed by the closing of her channel than Seo Ji Hwan (Um Tae Goo) himself.
2. Seo Ji Hwan’s deep interest in Go Eun Ha
After helping Eun Ha to get out of trouble back at the hospital, Seo Ji Hwan can’t help but to try to find a way to meet her again, so he quickly makes up an excuse and asks her in the most hilarious way to clean his coat for him after it got drenched in milk. It’s obvious he has a true interest for her, and even if it is too early to call it love, he is definitely on his way to fall hard for her. That is why the moment he finds out her channel is shut down he runs straight to look for her, taking the chance that his right hand Joo Il Young (Kim Hyun Jin) gets him after approaching Eun Ha’s close friend Gu Mi Ho (Moon Ji In).
Unfortunately, it looks like Kang Ye Na already has an unhealthy interest in Ji Hwan after he saved her from some gangsters when she was younger. Having an annoying second female lead is really too cliche to be enjoyable, but let’s hope there’s some character development for her. On the bright side, Seo Ji Hwan’s mind is already plagued with thoughts of Go Eun Ha, so much so that when she asks him to meet to deliver his clean coat, he literally can’t concentrate on anything besides that, even seeing her in front of him in the middle of a meeting, leaving every one of his employees completely bewildered.
3. Seo Ji Hwan’s past overshadowing his present
Too focused on being unemployed, getting kicked out of her house, and not having anything to rely on, Eun Ha is oblivious to the interest that Seo Ji Hwan is showing toward her. She still can’t see past what he used to be, telling him how she wished he weren’t a gangster in the first place. And though Ji Hwan has tried hard to leave behind his dark past, it still hunts him down in one way or another, something that he has reflected upon after trying to find a missing employee who apparently relapsed into drugs. However, Ji Hwan’s kindness is far stronger than any prejudice, and he nonchalantly offers her a moment to take shelter from the rain when it looks like Eun Ha is about to break down.
And just like that, without planning it, Eun Ha ends up spending the night in Ji Hwan’s home, once again leaving speechless to all of the employees who live with him. Still dubious about her due to the previous incident that deeply affected their company’s image, they reluctantly share the table with her. But it is noticeable that Eun Ha will have a difficult time earning everyone’s trust, even Ji Hwan’s, who at first rejects her offer to accompany him and tries to find clues on the missing man’s whereabouts. Finally giving in and taking her with him, he explains the situation and the possible risks to her implication in the situation, making Ji Hwan admit that he doesn’t trust that much in the people that surround him, which puts them in a sort of awkward mood.
4. Go Eun Ha possibly finding her long lost old friend
One of the reasons why Eun Ha is heavily prejudiced against gangsters is because it is shown how she and her family had to face many difficulties due to them. But amongst all of that struggles, there was someone by her side that made everything better: her friend Hyeon Woo. And though everything points that the prosecutor Jang Hyeon Woo (Kwon Yool) is in fact the old friend she abruptly lost in her childhood, there are still some clues that might hint he actually isn’t the one. But most likely, Eun Ha will believe he is her dear friend since it was also his dream to become a prosecutor at one time. Here is where the love triangle starts to form as it is shown as well that he actually fell in love with her at first sight, but there are no signs just yet that he still remembers her from their childhood.
Not to mention, there’s yet to discover what exactly happened between Ji Hwan and Hyeon Woo in the past for the prosecutor to be that fixated on Ji Hwan. One thing is for sure, these three will cross paths more than once in the future, just like it was shown at the end of episode 4, when Hyeon Woo arrives at the place where Eun Ha and Ji Hwan were looking for his missing employee. Luckily, the party is barely starting, and we still have plenty of episodes to find out what will happen in “My Sweet Mobster,” so let’s wait and see what brings us in the upcoming episodes this week!
