My Sweet Mobster” is still stirring up everyone’s hearts ahead of its final episodes, keeping us at the edge of our seats at every moment. Last week, emotions were going left and right for Go Eun Ha (Han Sun Hwa) and Seo Ji Hwan (Um Tae Goo) for both good and bad reasons, not only because of their romantic relationship, but for all the people around them. Though it looks like everything is starting to wrap up within this K-drama, there are still a few important unresolved issues left, so we better prepare ourselves for the upcoming last episodes, which hopefully will give good closure. Here are four surprises that happened in last week’s episodes that left more than one person speechless.

Warning: spoilers from episodes 13-14 ahead!

1. Getting to know Lee Dong Hee’s backstory

At the end of last week’s episode, there was a commotion at Thirsty Deer headquarters because it looked like there was someone who was actually trying to hurt Go Eun Ha. Given the fact that Seo Ji Hwan actually had in mind his own father’s threat to make him come back to his gang, it was clear that he was on high alert. However, it is quickly cleared out that the person who arrives at that moment isn’t targeting Eun Ha but Lee Dong Hee (Jaechan), who has turned into some sort of younger brother not only for everybody in the Thirsty Deer family but for Eun Ha as well. Later on, we find that the man is the older brother of Dong Hee’s classmate, a girl who tragically died in the accident that turned Dong Hee into an ex-convict.

Luckily, Ji Hwan is the first one to face the girl’s family, not minding at all to kneel and beg for their forgiveness. He knows Dong Hee made a mistake, and he doesn’t try to justify it by saying it was an accident or that he was too young at that moment. But he still protects him and what’s left of his life, which is his job at the company. At the same time, Jang Hyun Woo (Kwon Yool), who also arrives at the scene, can clearly see the way that Ji Hwan and every member of the Thirsty Deer family truly care for Dong Hee. This changes the bad perception he has of them, even making him reach out to Ji Hwan and ask for his help in dealing with Go Yang Hee.

2. Go Eun Ha finding out Seo Ji Hwan’s true identity

Though Eun Ha herself said that she didn’t need to know who was her childhood friend is as she knew he was doing fine in his life, the moment she starts to have suspicions of Ji Hwan’s true identity, she dashes to confirm it with Jang Hyun Woo. He tells her what her heart has been knowing for a long time, that the gentle, kindhearted boy who was her first and only childhood friend is the same man who nonchalantly stole her heart despite his rocky past. The moment Ji Hwan realizes Eun Ha knows the truth about who he is, there’s a certain hesitation and even fear in his face. However, when she tells him how much she’s missed him, he can’t help but run to embrace her, finally admitting how much he’s missed her as well.

Ji Hwan also has to admit that the reason for not telling her he was Hyun Woo was due to his fear of disappointing her. But Eun Ha quickly reassures him saying she is truly glad that he is Hyun Woo, and that in her eyes, he’s never really changed. He is still the same kind person who has always come to her side to help her. Now that both have the certainty that they’ve found each other, they make a promise to not leave each other. As danger is closer to them than ever, we can only hope that this promise will remain strong between them. In the meantime, we can delight in the sweetness of their beautiful relationship, even when Ji Hwan remains true to his clueless self when it comes to dating and tells Eun Ha that he still doesn’t think about marriage until he marries off all the Thirsty Deer men.

3. Joo Il Yeong and Gu Mi Ho announcing their marriage

It only took 14 episodes for Joo Il Yeong (Kim Hyun Jin) and Gu Mi Ho (Moon Ji In) to finally reach an understanding and give us what viewers were so eagerly waiting for: the beginning of their relationship. After a long push and pull between this cute second lead couple, their ship has sailed; however, they still had to break the news to all their families. To both Mi Ho and Il Yeong’s surprise, her parents’ response to her unexpected pregnancy wasn’t as good as they could have wished for. After all, even Mi Ho herself had very valid reasons to hesitate about her relationship with Il Yeong even if she wants to keep the baby. But luckily they are not alone on this.

The moment Il Yeong tells Ji Hwan, Eun Ha, and all the Thirsty Deer family about his marriage plans and that he will become a father, they take immediate action, especially Ji Hwan. As an older brother figure to Il Yeong, Ji Hwan presents himself at Mi Ho’s house and humbly asks her parents for their blessing for Il Yeong, assuring them he will become a great father and husband despite having grown up without a family. With just a little bit of reluctance from Mi Ho’s dad, they open up their arms to welcome them into the family. This gives us a very endearing moment among all of them, so we should expect a very bright and happy ending for this couple and their future baby.

4. Seo Ji Hwan’s dad barging into his life again

The best scenario for these last episodes would be to see our main couple and all the other characters walking on the flowery path, only enjoying their love and happiness. But before that happens, they must face one final challenge: the overpowering presence of Ji Hwan’s father, who is dead set on bringing him back to his side in order to rebuild the gang Ji Hwan tried so hard to break up. At first, it looked like his father would try to seek revenge for sending him to jail. But it looks like he understands that, to Ji Hwan, the idea of being forced to go back to his past life or seeing someone he cares for getting hurt is more painful than being hurt himself.

The moment Ji Hwan sees his father and his men entering his company, he feels like his world is staring to slowly crumble and all his efforts to have a normal life go to waste with the mere existence of his father. But despite his father’s wishes, Go Yang Hee has plans of his own as well, and so he targets Eun Ha in his attempt to get revenge against Ji Hwan. To everyone’s misfortune, he tries to hurt her, but only ends up hurting Jang Hyun Woo, who bravely gets in the way before someone can hit Eun Ha with a brick. Seeing as how Ji Hwan’s worst nightmare is coming to a reality, we will have to wait and see how he’ll protect his family and loved ones in the upcoming and final episodes of “My Sweet Mobster.”
